Robbie Maddison just rode a dirt bike on a wave at Teahupoo

Robbie Maddison is one of the world’s great daredevils but his latest exploits might just top anything he has done before.

Maddison just rode a dirt bike on a sizeable wave at one of the most terrifying reef breaks in the world, Teahupoo in Tahiti.

The Australian dirt biker is no stranger to death defiance. He has backflipped his bike over the Tower Bridge in London, he has jumped the Corninth Canal in Greece and has acted as a stunt double for Daniel Craig in James Bond films.

But in all his years as a madman Maddison admits he never feared for his life quite like he did riding this wave (above) on a modified motor bike.

"You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life,” he told Surfer Magazine.

"I’ve never felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I did right there. It was a near-death experience.”

To even come up with the idea is crazy enough but Maddison grew up surfing heavy waves south of Sydney so is no stranger to surfing.

But even so, this is Teahupoo. This is a wave that has the best surfers on the planet terrified even on medium-sized days.

You cannot deny the footage though. This is one stunt that will be viewed for many years to come.

"At the end of the day, the images and footage say something pretty awesome, but the ferocity and how gnarly that thing was can’t really be put into words,” he said.
