The All Whites have gained a small measure of revenge by beating New Caledonia 2-0 in Noumea at the start of the third phase of Oceania qualifying for the 2014 soccer World Cup.

Shane Smeltz opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Chris Wood's original shot was deflected his way by keeper Rocky Nyikeine.

Wood doubled New Zealand's advantage just before half-time when he headed home.

In June, New Caledonia produced a big upset by beating the All Whites 2-0 in an Oceania Nations Cup semi-final.

In the other fixture on Friday, the Solomon Islands beat Tahiti 2-0 in Honiara.

The next round of matches are on Tuesday, when Tahiti host New Caledonia and New Zealand face the Solomons in Auckland.
