Former rugby league star Craig Field has been charged with murder after he allegedly king hit a patron at a pub at Kingscliff on the NSW north coast.
Field had been originally charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm before facing court.
During the court hearing, a 'development' delayed the case when the man was pronounced dead in hospital, prompting police to charge Field with murder.
Field made his debut for South Sydney when he was 17 years-old and went on to captain the Rabbitohs in 1995.
Following six years at the Rabbitohs Field joined Manly-Warringah where we was a member of the 1997 side that lost the grand final.
Field retired from rugby league in 2001 after 183 first grade games.
