New Zealander Marina Erakovic survived a two-hour, three-set battle with England's Laura Robson to set up a third-round clash with Russian Ekaterina Makarova at the Birmingham Classic.
Ninth-seeded Erakovic battled through to a 6-4 3-6 6-4 win over Robson, ranked 114th in the world to Erakovic's 46.
Makarova is seeded eighth at Birmingham, and is ranked No.54 on the WTA rankings.
Another win for Erakovic on Birmingham's grass courts would go some way towards underlining her bid for Olympic inclusion, where the tennis will be played at Wimbledon.
Tennis New Zealand has nominated her, but the New Zealand Olympic Committee is holding off on a decision while it seeks further information. An announcement is expected on June 22.
