alas 'Ping'......I do still exist & have only existed under my one & only handle (ie. the current one).

i followed the recent goings on @ melbourne of course but was disinclined to post any comments....not coz the tourney was bad (it was a great tourney from the men's side), but more coz I couldnt be bothered

suffice to say, I was mega pleased to see MurrayMint @ least show some balls in (gallant) defeat to the superhuman that is Djoko.

rest of the season should be very interesting tho'....

Good to know you are still around...
Have you heard from Geoff.. I am concerned...

Yes, Melbourne was good in many aspects.
Baby Murraymint showed some good signs of determination... Too soon to say whether Lendl can instill that fire within him and make him believe 'He can do it'..... Thing is Djoko is still playing very well and despite his antics and acting as if he is about to expire, he weathered injury and the heat to 'Do it again'...

I thought Ferrer could have tried harder, he really is a battler..

Lets make the mens game into three sets.... much fairer in many ways, especially with their schedule the way it is these days...
Six hours for one final and 1.20 for the other just doesnt sit right with me....

Look forward to your comments if you feel inclined..

defo...do NOT make men's slams comps best-of-3.........this is the creme-de-la-creme of the sport.......& I'm not sure how you say it would make it 'fair' ....to who ?..........it's the usual 4 who make the latter stages of the Slams & most of the Masters tourneys (which are best of 3)......just coz the rest of the pack can't beat them over best-of-5 is not their fault. The Slams are meant to reward the best players - not guys who can win a quick couple of sets. I've never heard it said that mens should be best-of-3 at all.......I give you that almost 6 hours is way too long for a game......but it was gripping theatre & I dont think there's anybody who watched it (or the 2 that played in it) are complaining.

Didnt explain myself properly Scott...

Prize Money is the main thing with me...
Just isnt right....
Wozniacki .. compared with Graff, Navratilova, Seles wasnt the No.1 we are looking for but held the Title for ages... Hopefully this year will prove to be a little more exciting... Anyway, female tennis is way below par for entertainment as far as I am concerned than the Mens Game but they receive the same Prize Money for far less tennis time. The alternatives, either Females play 5 sets (heaven forbid.. we only have two weeks !!! lol) OR the men play three Sets, maybe the first to 9 games instead of 7.. the rules could be changed.. BUT when you consider the tournaments they are expected to play before they can enter the Slams it is gruelling and the surfaces etc are taking their toll on their joints.. More injuries than ever before... Dont you think its unfair that they are being injured more and more compared to previous eras?

So Prize Money, Entertainment Value, and wear and tear on the Mens bodies are the three main reasons I said what I said... I am not sure about your comment .. no one was complaining... I think their bodies were... silently!!!!!

Any news on Geoff?

I'm still following events very closely & the pace is about to step up shortly with the euro clay court season about to start.

Masters@Miami proved that Djoko is still the king....Murray was underdone in the final (2 w/o's in a tourney didnt help him)

Havent looked on the threads for a while and wondered who was playing where and when, so having found that Lubijcic has retired and that Monaco beat Isner.. thought I would check the threads...

Maybe its too soon but I cannot see anything different in Andy since Lendl became involved... lets see how he feels on clay...

Where I am living at present I cannot always see the tournaments but I shall keep up with scores on the computer as and when and of course I shall rely upon your comments on the matches you find interesting enough to chat about ...

Enjoy the clay season and lets see if Nadal can make it EIGHT...

Hope you come back and read this.
As for Roddick....done and dusted in the first round. Maybe Z will crawl under a rock and shut up. He was so down on Blake when he had an injury and it is good that he is back in the main draw. Hope he goes out and enjoys himself.

Yes I have missed these thread but am happy to say that I am now OK and back after all the problems with my health last year.

Great to have you to talk to...

I have been critical... non convinced....disappointed... in Murray..
Tonight however, I was begging him to stop in the first set....
He seemed to be in agony.....
Then....
Stronger and Stronger shots made by him... A conviction...

Dont know whether it was Lendl influence or sheer guts and determination on his part...

He has learned a lot about himself tonight and if that isnt enough to make him achieve great things in the future.. I dont know what will...

Well done Andy Murray... I am proud of you and I hope you now realise you can 'do it'....

Scott you must have something to say....

Hi Ping.

Yes I did see the match last night. Scott must have been pleased. There have been some weird results. Serena W on melt down. It is all good to follow. Lets hope we can revive these boards. Still no word from Scott. I think he has moved from Brisbane to Sydney so hopefully we will hear from him. As for Z ...wonder what has happened to him?

Ping, I was kicked out of Tennis amada ages ago. Not sure if Scott is still there. It is run by a very dominating woman who can't stand anyone having their own opinion.

Last night was some good tennis. Bad light stopped the last two men's games and azarenka is gone. Sam really has a very good chance

GRS .....welcome back....good to hear the health is better !

I have been v.v.quiet........rarely look @ the MB these days & have never ever posted on TA.

RG - Mens...unless Rafa gets hit by illness or a truck.....I can't see him losing....he's just too good in Paris. Djoko seems to be off-key. Rafa seems to have overcome the Djoko-jix, so I think Djoko needs to revisit his strategy vs. Rafa. Fed-X seems to think he has a great chance due to the heavy conditions,but I couldnt ever see him beat Rafa in Paris.
My man, Murray-Mint ? I wouldnt be suprised to see him lose to Gasquet (went to 5 sets 2 years ago&Gasquet shouldv won).if he does get thru', he's scheduled to play Ferrer & I would take Ferrer to win 7 out of 10 on clay vs. him. I can't put my finger on my doubts about Murray-Mint this year..he has been quite ordinary since Oz open. He's some big ranking points to defend & not beyond possibility that if Berdych gets on a roll in this & next few tourneys & Murray-Mint doesnt, then he could drop out of top-4.

No doubt he's got injury problems, but that aside, I've seen absolutely zero difference in his playing style since Lendl came on board & we all know his current style will not beat either of the Big-3 in a Slam or the power hitters (Berdych, Del Potro) if they get hot on a given day.His powder puff 2nd serve & dodgy forehand will just get eaten up by these guys.

Im not convinced by the Lendl 'arrangement'. JohnnyMac said that he never ever wanted to be a FT tennis coach after his playing days & I question why Lendl after all these years outside tennis, would take up a role with a guy like Murray-Mint who is, of all the current top players, the one with the most difficult personality & has gone thru more coaches than nearly all of the top-10 players added up together.
Why would Lendl (a guy who did not put up with fools in his playing days), put up with a guy like Murray-Mint now ?

Let's see how that pans out

Fist of all congrats to MM on seemingly to find his mojo against Gasquet. I agree about Kendl. I wonder what his reason was. Maybe he needs money as the changes if any in MM are not visible.

As for Rafa. I guess you are right. He seems invincible. As for jerkovitch he was really pushed in that 5 setter.

Tonight it is Fed/Del Porno and Joker against the ever unpredictable Tsonga. How I would love Joe to pull off a big upset.

As for TA I didn't think you were on there. As I said b4 it is run by a very pushy woman who jumps on anything you disagree with. So hence I was ejected. It is now just made up of the lonely housewives lol

No major suprise Murray-Mint lost to Ferrer, who is the better claycourter for sure. Disappointing that Murray-Mint error count was so high.......I'd be suprised if Murray-Mint was in the top-10 of claycourters just now........too many other better players on that surface (Rafa,Djoko,Fed-X,JMDP,Berdych,Ferrer,Almagro......)

Djoko/Fed-X should be a cracker.....after Djoko's amzing win, he has to be fave, as I think that Fed-X was slightly lucky that JMDP was hampered in last set & a half & that JMDP kind of let him off the hook......but it's close between these 2.

Nobody looks like stopping Rafa.......he's just gone up a level since last year & seems unstoppable.

Womens ?.........Stosur on a hot streak right now, but Sharapova also has been really very good all year....

I was invited by Skipiglet to join the TA and was very surprised to be ejected because I had not posted... Maybe it is a statutory thing if you dont post for six months.. but I am not one for rules and regulations at the best of times, let alone when I am supposed to be having fun!!! I do though miss Weekend at Bernies who was always constructive in his comments and Twoleftfeet who had a very dry sense of humour...

I didnt see baby Murraymint lose so cannot comment...

The Mens matches should hopefully be very interesting...
Ferrer will as always give a good account of himself.....
I think Djoko will prevail.. think he has the edge at the moment..

I wonder if Errani can upset Shreikapova.... Sometimes players who have done well unexpectedly in a competition and who have nothing to lose can be a surprise...

I think it's over for Fed-X now in the Slams.......unless the draw opens up & he's around to be the main beneficiary. The way he was dismantled by Djoko in Paris & previously in the semis by Rafa @ Ozi Open this year, lead me to conclude that he can't compete with these 2 in best-of-5 sets any longer. In best-of-3 set matches, yes, he can hold his own but not in best-of-5. Hardly earth-shattering conclusion on my part, but it's increasingly the reality now. Next 2 slams should confirm this, tho always dangerous to write off a champ like Fed-X,

Djoko was great but Rafa was a giant......totally annihilated Ferrer.........should be a good final, but Rafa would have to be fave.

In womens, cant see past Shriekapova.

My sentiments today after watching him with Djoko
BUT
I still have one hope for a final slam...

This year's Wimblies....

He had no answer for Djoko today
BUT
He is in his twilight years of his tennis career
AND YET
here he is in the semi final .... there are many players who have made a good living from tennis whom have never been in a semi in their lives... (dont ask me to name names)... lol

so

Here he is, not playing as many tournaments as he used to, BUT is here in the semi of yet another GS ..

So he should be pleased...

Grass is his more favoured surface (I think) and so his confidence may be really good..

MAYBE

Djoko and Nadal have 'spent' themselves over the past few months... but he has not... Therefore he may make one final surge for this years Wimblies...

What Do You Think?

He wasnt allowed to play his game... Barely came to the net or serve and volleyed..

Watched the woman's finals and Erani put uyp a good fight. She is going to be a player to be watched with interest. Sharapova deserved her victory and is now #1. Wonder what Serena thinks about that lol

As fro Federer. Yes he is in his twilight years but still has a lot of tennis left in him. The fact that he reached the semi's is an achievement that many would relish. I for one still follow him and hope he does well in Wimbledon.

As for Rafa and Jerko. Rafa does go in with those two recent Clay court wins against Jerko and for me he is still the favorite. will be a good match no matter what. Just wonder if it will be tonight or played on Monday as they are expecting rain.

Forget about the problems of TA. I did say b4 that it is run by a very dominating person and if you dont fall in with everything she says you are out.

while my writing off of Fed-X in Slams may be hasty, it's an undeniable fact he is not the player he was 3 years ago in Slam events.......even Wimbers last 2 years he has not even got to semis......the US Open is his last realistic Slam of winning.....Djoko & Rafa are just too good in the other Slams.........BUT........like I say, if the draw opens up in a given Slam, he may be the 1 to take advantage of that......unlike my man Murray-Mint.......who I think will never ever win a Slam.

I think that if Fed-X had overcome Djoko in semis, then he would have been slaughtered by Rafa in the final.......it would have been even more embarrassing than that french final a few years back where he only won a handful of games versus Rafa.

Re: Rafa/Dkojo final......Rafa the lion should win, but Djoko's will to win & courage (even tho I dont like him) is awesome & he may just do it........but Rafa seems just too good now & also this year

Sharapova has totally proved me wrong this year........when I saw her crushed @ Ozi Open by Aza, I thought it was the changing of the guard & aza would rule for some time, but full credit to Sharapova, she has been amazing this year......& would now appear to be the real top dog in the women's game. Id still expect SW to be a force @ Wimbers tho as I think she can shrug off the shock in Paris to mount a real challenge on grass. Aza to me looks tired physically & mentally.......she needs to stop the recent decline (by her standards) & get her mojo back, else she will be playing catch up with a now fully fit & focused Sharapove.
