Reports surfaced on Monday afternoon that rugby playmaker Quade Cooper has quit Australian rugby union, which ends his roles in the Wallabies and Queensland Reds.
Rugby league reporter Danny Weidler broke the news on social media, but the claims have not been confirmed by Australian Rugby Union. It is believed Cooper has not yet told the ARU.
The news follows a revised contract offer from the ARU to Cooper on Monday morning. Instead of having his six-figure ARU contract boosted, Cooper was offered a humbling deal which would see him paid in an incentive-only basis.
Earlier this month Cooper was suspended for three matches and copped a hefty $40,000 fine, with an extra $20,000 suspended fine for his comments about the Wallabies, in which he described the feeling around the squad as a 'toxic environment'.
If Cooper has indeed quit rugby, speculation is now growing on where his next destination will be. Cooper could play rugby in another country, but rugby league is touted as another option.
Weidler suggested that Cooper may even take up boxing, following a similar path as fellow Kiwi-born rugby superstar Sonny Bill Williams.
Judging by his tweeting activity recently, boxing might not be such an outlandish suggestion.

Sack the idiots running Oz Rugby! They repeatedly make stupid decisions that undermine our ability to win. Cooper is a player you build a team around, not the other way round. His ability in this situation is proven, but consistently the Wallabies have hamstrung his play and his performance is off as a result. This is a great loss for Australia and the Reds, and the faceless men at the top should be taken outside and shot!
