Jockey Corey Brown's dream Cup week continued on Emirates Stakes Day when he won the $1 million Group One feature on outsider All American for trainer David Hayes.
Brown had already won the Emirates Melbourne Cup and the AAMI Victoria Derby so Saturday's win made it three Group Ones in what is Australian racing's biggest week.
"I have to pinch myself, I've just had a blinder," Brown said.
"I would have been happy after the Derby just to take that but I've won the Melbourne Cup and the Emirates, it's just super."
Brown said All American has a habit of finding trouble in his races and it was a similar case on Saturday but this time he was able to overcome them.
"David gave me a bit of a plan but I like to let things fall into place. That's what happened today and everything worked good," said Brown.
Hayes said things finally fell into place for All American who has been dogged by bad luck in his races
"He's been frustrating because he just doesn't have luck. He had the best sectionals through the Caulfield meeting regularly but he was getting maligned for running well but not having luck," Hayes said.
"We've schooled him a little bit (over jumps) - he's a wonderful jumper - and that schooling's sharpened him. To run down a Cox Plate winner (So You Think) was a great effort."
So You Think started $3.90 but despite instructions from trainer Bart Cummings to settle behind the pace, jockey Glen Boss found himself in front when the field settled down. Boss later told Cummings the horse was too fresh and wouldn't settle for him.
Despite setting the pace, the three-year-old held on well for second with $8 chance Gold Salute coming from last to fill third placing. The winner's time was a blistering 1:33.98.
