Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has accepted an invitation to attend the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Mr Rudd will attend the official Team Reception in Beijing on August 7th at the request of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
He will hand the Australian flag to the athlete chosen as flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony the following day, with an announcement on the name of the athlete expected in the next few days.
The AOC said via a press release they are "delighted" Mr Rudd has accepted the invite.
"It is very important for our Team on the eve of competition to have the Prime Minister present," said AOC President John Coates.
"We are delighted Mr Rudd will be with us in Beijing".
