The tandem placed second to the dominant Chinese duo of Qin Kai and Luo Yutong by finishing with 451.89 points. Zakharov also won silver in the individual 3m springboard in Shangai, finishing runner-up to Chinese powerhouse He Chong, the defending Olympic champion. Zakharov and Kuznetsov won gold in the synchronised 3m springboard at the 2011 European Championships in Turin, and Zakharov claimed the silver medal in the individual event, finishing behind only Patrick Hausding of Germany.
