Magomedrasul Medzhidov Biography
Medzhidov started his training with famed Russian boxer Magomed Abdusalamov and immediately showed he could compete at a high level. Medzhidov doesn’t have much experience in amateur boxing, but he was able to make an impact right when he started. After winning a smaller international tournament in 2009, he was sought out by the Baku Fire to compete in the World Series of Boxing. Medzhidov went undefeated in five bouts, including a victory over 2000 Olympic bronze medalist Rustam Saidov. His preparation translated into huge success, and Medzhidov showed his major potential by earning a gold medal at the 2011 world championships. Medzhidov entered as the No. 2 seed in his weight class and cruised through his first four bouts by a combined score of 58-30 to capture an Olympic berth. He ran into a little trouble in the final against Britain's Anthony Joshua, trailing 8-5 after the first round, but Medzhidov tied the bout in the second round and won the third and final round by a point to claim gold. He'll be looking for another one in London after spending recent months training in Miami.
