BEIJING 2008

Even F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen is psyched for the BMX in Beijing

Well it's almost time to head off. The BMX team did'nt march in the opening ceremony since we are not competing until the 20th, and there is a lack of specific training facilities for us in Beijing or any surrounding area. So instead I'm still at home here in Toowoomba until later today when we fly to Sydney for four days of training on Luke Madill's Olympic replica track in Sydney.

This will provide a bit of an opportunity to fine tune a few small technical things before we fly out on the 15th. One pretty cool thing I read was that Ferrari F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen mentioned in an interview that the event he is waiting to watch is the BMX racing! Pretty cool stuff. I can't wait to show everyone what the sport is about, I think everyone will be very impressed. The sport has evolved so much over the past couple of decades and is nothing like what a lot of people think it will be.

I stayed up and watched the opening ceremony the other night and even had a bit of a nap for 45 minutes on the couch when I heard that Australia was to come out almost last. To watch the opening ceremony knowing i'm going to be a part of it all was really exciting, I definately felt like I really wanted to be there watching everyone else walk in, but I know it's for the best.

I'm starting to taper my training now, just doing some good quality short sessions and I certainly had all the inspiration I needed to train today with watching the Channel 7 coverage while I trained!

I'm feeling really relaxed still about it all. I really don't get all worked up on race days like some guys do, I just try and enjoy it, and this race I'll be doing just that again. Well, its time to watch a bit more TV and finish packing. More soon.

Hey Gravey!! Mate good luck with everything over there. Hope everything goes well. Just getting to the main will be a huge effort. And anything can happen from there. I think the men's event is so open it is to hard to predict who will win. But mate all of Australia and the Australian BMX community is behind you. Trying your hardest is all we ask of you mate. Good luck. And take care mate!
