Training in Spain
June 13, 2008

Hi Everyone
I'm writing to you on my Lenovo notebook from my hotel room in Barcelona.
That's right, I'm in Europe at the moment in the middle of a three and a half week training and competition tour.
The trip started in Rome with a week of tough training. I didn't feel 100% for the first few days, but slowly adjusted and ended up doing some good work in the pool.
We also had a meet in Rome. The meet was a good test for me as a number of the top competitors that I will be racing at the Olympics were there. They are Frenchman Alain Bernard, Italian Filippo Magnini and Sweden's Stefan Nystrand.
The 100m freestyle was a hard fought race and I finished in a dead heat for second with Bernard in a time of 48.41 with Magnini winning in a time of 48.35. I did manage to get the better of them in the 50m freestyle though winning in a time of 21.85 which I was pretty happy with.
From Rome we came across here to Barcelona for another meet. I managed to win both the 50m and 100m freestyle here which was good, although I wasn't very happy with my swim in the 50m. My time was 22.12 and I was really looking to go a bit faster that I did in Rome.
Tomorrow we head across to Canet for the final meet of the tour. Hopefully I can produce some fast times there to finish off the tour before heading home.
I'll let you know how I go when I check in again next month.
Cheers
Eamon
