BEIJING 2008

Getting it right on the day

Well its crunch time, this is where the last four years of training are put to the test.... The only chance I have to qualify for the Olympics....

I will be looking to qualify for the individual 50 and 100 metres Freestyle, which over the past year have become a lot more competitive. Currently I am ranked 1st for both events with a few people breathing down my neck, so I won't be taking any chances. I will be making sure I do everything right on the day to make sure I book my spot on the team.

My preparations have (touch wood) been one of the best ones I have had in recent years, I have had limited injuries with lots of good results and gains in the pool. In the past month I have broken the world record in the 50m Freestyle and the Commonwealth and Australian records in both the 50 and the 100m Freestyle. So things have been looking good, training is starting to wind down and my body is starting to freshen up... The best part of swimming!! From here on in its all mind games, all the hard work has been done, there are no more gains to be made, all you can do is rest your body and make sure that you can execute your race plan on the day!

It is my final few days in Perth before I fly to Sydney to compete; I hope that the next time I write that I have nothing but good news!
