Americans quick but we are ready
July 18, 2008

Hello everyone and welcome back.
Firstly to recap on Mare Nostrum, I was very happy with my racing. I ended up with five first places and one second out of my six races. It was nice to win races, I was just especially happy to swim such fast times after the hard ten days at altitude.
Since then, everything has been going well except for a couple of days out of the water with a little sickness.
Although this is not perfect, it is not a disaster because it gives the muscles the opportunity to freshen up a bit. With that behind me the training has been going really well and this is my last full week of training before the games. This is a great thing to say to myself, because the body is certainly looking forward to a rest and a nice holiday after the games.
In swimming news, a fair bit has happened, mainly the USA Olympic Trials.
The Americans were quick across the board but I think our team had prepared for that. In my events we had a one major upset and a world record. Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, broke Brendan Hanson's world record in the 200m Breaststroke. Then at the US trials Brendan Hanson then placed fourth in the 200m so he will not be swimming the event at the Olympics.
So with around three and a half weeks until the opening ceremony everything is set.
The majority of the hard work is done its all about putting the finishing touches on. Next time I will be writing from Malaysia, on our Olympic staging camp and then it is onto the village on the 4th of August.
