BEIJING 2008

Championship Results

Last week I flew to Adelaide to compete in the SA Diving Championships. This competition was our warm up event before Nationals Championships in January, with most top divers around the country competing. There were divers from South Australia, Victoria, NSW, Queensland and Western Australia, which made it a high quality event.

My first event was Saturday, I had 10m platform synchronised event with Melissa Wu. In this event each pair does five dives, two basic dives and then three dives which have no degree of difficulty limit - so they are the dives with lots of somersaults and twists! In the synchronised diving events there are nine judges, two judges judge diver A's dive, two judges judge divers B's dive and five judges judge the synchronisation of the pair. Melissa and my first two dives were excellent, scoring highly. Our last three dives were individually good, but our synchronisation off the platform wasn't great, so we hit the water at slightly different times, which meant our synchronisation scores were a bit low. We were a bit disappointed as we normally dive much better than that. I'm sure we will be spot on when Nationals Championships come around.

My second event was on Sunday, I had the Women's 3m springboard event. In this event we each do five dives, a front spinning dive, a back spinning dive, a reverse spinning dive, an inward spinning dive and a twist dive. These dives have unlimited degree of difficulty, so they can be as hard as you want! I dove quite well, only my reverse 2.5 somersaults pike dive was a bit short. I scored 301 points, and came in second place behind Sharleen Stratton (my 3m synchro partner).

My final event was 3m synchronised with Sharleen, we both dove very well and our synchro was spot on, we were one point from a personal best score! We were very happy with that result, as too was our coach Hui Tong.

Sunday afternoon I flew back to Brisbane, after the busy weekend of diving!  Overall the competitions in Adelaide went quite well, I now feel more comfortable with the platform and the springboard, which was the main goal of the trip, and I dove good too!
