Steve Moneghetti: Kenyans primed for first gold

When I was on my run this morning an interesting thought occurred to me. Before Steve Hooker's gold in the pole vault, our first 11 were all water connected. Six in the pool, then there's rowing and even Emma Snowsill's triathlon win had a wet leg. Just now it appears we've got another one up on the water with Ken Wallace in the K1 500m.  We sure love our water.

The men's marathon is tomorrow and the big thing will be the Kenyan effort. Everyone thinks that Kenya dominates distance running, the funny thing is that no Kenyan has ever won Olympic marathon gold. They have an exceptionally strong team this year, so they're as good a chance as any.

From an Aussie perspective, I've been coaching Lee Troop and he's primed and raring  to go. It would be great to see him get out there and do something special.

The conditions are looking good, with the humidity slightly high, but no pollution impact to talk about.

Finally, well done to Jared Tallent. He competes for the same club as I do back in Ballarat and he's made us all proud and made 102 years of history in the process.
