Juliana Silva Biography
The FIVB’s reigning three-time Most Outstanding Player, Juliana again will team with Larissa and be the primary threats to the U.S. duo of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh to repeat as Olympic gold medal champions in London. This will be Juliana’s first Olympic appearance, having missed the Beijing Games in 2008 due to a knee injury. The pair defeated May-Treanor and Walsh to claim the 2011 world championship, one of their six FIVB titles last year and giving the pair an FIVB-leading 43 tournament titles for their careers. She and Larissa are six-time FIVB Tour Champion and Team of the Year winners and have been a dominant force since first partnering in 2004. Juliana also has two Pan Am Games gold medals to her credit, winning titles with Larissa in 2007 when Brazil hosted and securing gold again in 2011. Ironically, Larissa’s volleyball career began when she saw the sport as a way to avoid physical education classes since she only played while on vacation.
