• A long-distance specialist, Davies won a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing in 14:45.95 - a British and European record.
• Davies won bronze medals in the 1500m freestyle in the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia and the 2005 World Championships in Montreal.
• He won a gold medal in the 1500m freestyle and a bronze in the 400m freestyle while racing for Wales at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
• In his first international meeting at senior level - the 2002 Commonwealth Games - Davies reached the final of the 1500m freestyle.
• Davies won a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle at the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, just one week after he spent four days in the hospital receiving a course of intravenous antibiotics every four hours for a foot infection.
