Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams branded the Power's 11-point loss to Melbourne on Sunday as 'very embarrassing' but said it wouldn't stop him from renewing his contract with the club, perhaps as early as this week.
The Power let slip a great opportunity to intensify their push for a top-eight berth, the defeat leaving Williams' men with a 7-8 win-loss record and needing to win at least five of their final seven games to feature in September.
The Power's lack of intensity in the opening three quarters was a major issue against a side that until this game had posted just the two wins this season.
Skipper Dominic Cassisi (36 possessions) was one of the few to be consistent all day, while Kane Cornes (35) and defenders Steven Salopek and Toby Thurstans were strong.
Williams said his men were 'certainly hurting' by the loss and even he wasn't his 'usual zippy self'.
"They beat us in most of the contested stuff today, we were pretty ordinary," he said.
"It was really disappointing for us."
"We certainly didn't come into the game underestimating them. We prepared for them to be at our absolute best."
The Power were flattered by the scoreboard early, with the Demons enjoying only a two-goal lead at half-time despite dominating the key statistics.
"In the last quarter we dominated the clearances, we had enough chances to win if we were good enough but we weren't on the day," Williams said.
"We had four or five players who were particularly poor, which is really disappointing."
"Our supporters would be very embarrassed by that result for us and that's justified."
The Power closed to within seven points in the final term but botched shots at goal by Brett Ebert, Nathan Krakouer and Warren Tredrea hurt.
Williams wouldn't publicly name the handful of players he was disappointed with but two had to be veteran midfielder Josh Carr and former skipper Tredrea.
Carr had only 10 touches, including just two to half-time, while Tredrea was manhandled by Matthew Wornock and had only seven possessions and one goal.
Williams has been in the spotlight in recent weeks as he has yet to re-sign for next season.
But he said a new deal, reportedly involving a major pay cut and incentives, would be inked soon.
"I expect to sign in the next week," he said.
"There's nothing to do with finances. There are just a few things that just need to be sorted through."
"In the football week, did I think you would talk about my contract today? Not at all. Yesterday, not at all."
"So, there is only limited time in a week where you actually get a limited space to be able to reflect on that."
"It's a pretty major decision for both the club and me."
Williams also revealed former North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley had provided input to the Power's coaching staff at a meeting on Saturday.
