The AFL has asked Collingwood for a 'please explain' in regards to its treatment of umpires during the weekend.

The league will ask the Magpies to explain why coach Mick Malthouse delivered a spray to the umpires at quarter time last Friday night in the clash with Brisbane.

It will also investigate comments made by president Eddie McGuire on _3AW_ on Monday morning.

But the league's football operations manager Adrian Anderson said no action would be taken against Scott McLaren or Magpie midfielder Shane O'Bree for an incident in the third quarter.
