The Northern Territory Government has forked out more than $2 million to get one-day international cricket matches played in Darwin.

Three one dayers between Australia and Bangladesh will be played in Darwin between August and September this year.

Cricket Australia will also contribute $2 million to the project which will help pay for upgrades to the Marrara Stadium and Gardens Oval.

A drop in turf wicket will be used for the August 31, September 3 and September 6 at Marrara Stadium.

The games mark the beginning of a five-year commitment by Cricket Australia to bring more international matches to the Top End.

Cricket Australia has also announced it will spend $1 million on junior development, saying it wants the Territory to produce its first national test cricketer.</p>
