    MLB extends Draft League through 2030 season and announces plan to expand to eight teams

    Major League Baseball extended the MLB Draft League through the 2030 season and announced plans to expand by two teams to eight. The Draft League launched in 2021 following the reorganization that trimmed the minor leagues and it started play with six teams that had been in the Eastern, Carolina and New York-Penn Leagues. MLB said Thursday that 133 players from the Draft League had been picked in the amateur draft and 103 had signed as free agents.

    DoJ seeks more details from U.S. Steel, Nippon Steel on proposed merger

    The DoJ's request comes after the Japanese firm's proposed bid drew sharp criticism in the U.S., including from President Joe Biden, who said the asset should be domestically owned. Despite fears of layoffs, Japan's largest steelmaker has pledged no job cuts as a result of the merger and has said it will move its own U.S. headquarters to Pittsburgh where U.S. Steel is based. The acquisition of U.S. Steel will help Nippon, the world's fourth-largest steel maker, move toward 100 million metric tons of global crude steel capacity.
