Manchester United and Chelsea were drawing 1-1 at halftime in the all-English Champions League final.
Cristiano Ronaldo headed United in front after 26 minutes but Frank Lampard equalised for Chelsea on the stroke of halftime.
United broke through when Wes Brown and Paul Scholes exchanged passes on the right wing before Brown picked out Ronaldo who took advantage of poor marking from Michael Essien to power his header past Petr Cech.
Chelsea went close to equalising after 33 minutes when Edwin van der Sar palmed away a header under pressure from United defender Rio Ferdinand.
United almost doubled their lead moments later when Cech made two saves in quick succession from Carlos Tevez and Michael Carrick after a swift United counter-attack.
However, Lampard equalised when a long ball was deflected into his path off Ferdinand's back and the midfielder took advantage of a slip by Van der Sar to score.
