Aussie athlete to 'rip on Putin's a**' in Sochi

Australia's Sochi-bound Olympic athlete Belle Brockhoff is going to 'rip on [Putin's] a**' in reproach to Russia's anti-gay laws.

Brockhoff is a 21-year-old snowboard cross rider and the only openly gay athlete on the Australian team.

She vows there will be no mincing of words before and after her event and perhaps even during.

"It's the perfect opportunity to send a message," Brockhoff said.

"The Australian Olympic Committee has been really supportive and they want me to be safe. They don't recommend me waving a [rainbow] flag around which I won't do.

"The most I'll do is hold up six fingers to represent Principle Six. Possibly I'll do it on camera here or there, and maybe after the heats of my event."

Principle Six is one of Fundamental Principles of Olympism on the Olympic Charter. It states:

"Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement."

Brockhoff has become the face for a website called principle6.org with the site's organizers hoping to recruit other athletes, regardless of sexual orientation.

The Victorian snowboarder will do some interviews pre-race but not many.

But at the conclusion of her event she plans to let the world and Putin know exactly what she thinks.

"After I compete, I'm willing to rip on his ass," she said.

"I'm not happy and there's a bunch of other Olympians who are not happy either."

Brockhoff has stood on the dais at World Cup events before so is on of Australia's real deal hopes at the Sochi Winter Olympics.
