Craig Williams has claimed his second consecutive Caulfield Cup, guiding reigning Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden to victory in Saturday's $2.5 million handicap with a brilliant ride.
Williams missed the ride on Dunaden in last year's Melbourne Cup after being suspended, thwarting his attempt to become the first jockey to win Australia's triple crown of staying races in one year.
But he made some amends for that with a sensational ride from a wide barrier, allowing the brilliant French stayer, who started at $14, to overwhelm veteran local Alcopop ($16) with Lights of Heaven ($11) finishing third. For Dunaden, it confirms him as one of the world's best stayers having maintained his unbeaten run in Australia and claimed the two best handicaps in the land.
