Newcastle fail to persuade UEFA to change Europa date

Newcastle have had it confirmed they will face Greek side Atromitos in Athens on Thursday, August 23, reports the .

The Magpies had hoped the Europa League first leg of the final qualifying round fixture would be brought forward because of the trip to Chelsea on August 25.

However, The Toon have been unsuccessful and UEFA have told them it must take place on the originally planned night.

The return leg will be held a week later on August 30.
