Collingwood midfielder Sharrod Wellingham is facing an extended stint on the sidelines with scans confirming Carlton's Kade Simpson suffered a broken jaw from their collision on Friday night.
Wellingham was placed on report after collecting Simpson in a solid bump that left the Blue concussed during the third quarter of Carlton's shock win.
Leading sports physician Dr Peter Larkins believes that scans revealed a crack in Simpson's jaw, although the extent of the damage is unclear at this stage.
That spells bad news for Wellingham, who is looking at least four weeks on the sidelines.
The incident could be assessed as reckless (two activation points), severe impact (four) and contact to the head (two).
That would be a total of eight activation points and a Level 5 offence, which draws 550 points and a five-match suspension. Although he could have that reduced to four weeks with an early guilty plea. The Match Review Panel could take a harder stance and assess the incident as intentional, not reckless, which would be even worse for Wellingham.
