Bracken seeking big payout

Former Australian cricketer Nathan Bracken is suing Cricket Australia and three doctors for failing to provide 'competent' medical care during his time with the national team.

Bracken is seeking a payout of $1 million for the governing bodies' failure to 'investigate, diagnose and treat' a knee injury, News Limited reported.

The case was mentioned in the Supreme Court with Bracken ordered to declare the size of damages he wants and provide additional details of his injuries.

In his statement of claim Bracken details the breakdown in medical care that he believes prematurely ended his athletic career.

On the day before a one-day match against England on January 9, 2007 Bracken suffered a right knee injury which required medical attention.

Team doctor Trefor James and team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris advised Bracken to continue playing and prescribed a basic analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug.

Braken was sent for an MRI scan by Dr Simon Carter but only bone-bruising was diagnosed.

Braken believes that if any of the doctors had recognised that he required arthroscopic surgery on his knee he would have been able to continue his career into 2015.

Instead Bracken ended his career in February 2010 after developing a lunge lesion in his knee which resulted in 'constant debilitating right knee pain'.

The case returns to court on March 2.

I am appalled at this ridiculous lawsuit on a bung knee. You certainly earned good money while playing, learn to cope like mayn many others in this world who have far more life threatening injuries/illness. You should be ashamed of yourself. Beth of Sunshine Coast

What are those grubby lawyers getting out of this deal. When you get your next premium for insurance just think how much the lawyers get in these payouts..... plenty

Old story of course, the blood sucking lawyers would be driving this. God they're scum. In the immortal words of The Eagles.....lets kill all the lawyers, let's kill 'em tonight.
