Melbourne Vixens newcomers Karyn Howarth and Tegan Caldwell have earned a call-up to the 22-strong Australian netball squad.

The rookie duo played a big part in the Vixens' run to last Sunday's trans-Tasman league final, where they were beaten 41-38 by Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic.

West Coast Fever midcourter Ashleigh Brazill is the third new face in the squad announced on Wednesday by coach Lisa Alexander.

Central Pulse shooter Caitlin Thwaites remains the only Australian player based in a New Zealand franchise to be included.

The squad will trial from August 8-11 before the Diamonds team for the upcoming international season is named.

The Australians meet New Zealand's Silver Ferns in a three-Test series for the Constellation Cup, beginning in Melbourne on September 16 before matches in Auckland on September 20 and Christchurch three days later.

A six-Test Quad Series featuring New Zealand, England and South Africa begins in Adelaide on October 14, with games in Newcastle and Sydney before matches in Wellington, Tauranga and Hamilton.

Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu names her extended squad in Auckland next Monday, with trials scheduled from August 13-17 before the New Zealand team is named on August 20.
