SBW chasing more dollars

It looks like the Sydney Roosters' famous transit lounge has been given a new lick of paint and fresh new carpet as it prepares to welcome back Sonny Bill Williams for all of about five seconds.

The strong mail is SBW is about to leave rugby for a year or two back in the NRL before returning to union in time for the 2015 World Cup.

But wait. There's more.

Sonny also plans to fit in a fight in November, missing the All Blacks' spring tour to Europe as a result, before embarking on a 12-match stint with Japanese rugby club Panasonic worth $1m.

He'll remove the Superman cape just in time to start up with the Roosters in February next year.

That's assuming he doesn't try to cram in a spot of bullfighting or extreme skiing just before the season starts.

Don't get me wrong, this bloke is a wonderful athlete. One of the best we've seen in recent times.

But who does he think he is?

And what are these organisations doing holding the door open for him to come and go as he pleases?

Don't they have any pride in their jumper? Don't they care they're being used?

It's like sticking with a partner who continually cheats on you every time a better sort walks in the room.

SBW showed loyalty is not part of his vocabulary by upping stumps and walking out on Canterbury in 2008.

He'll go wherever the next dollar takes him.

Yet, it appears the Roosters are prepared to cop all that for one or two years of service.

No doubt Williams will be a big hit back in rugby league.

But I just wonder what sort of message it sends by letting a player tell you how it's going to be - like it or lump it.

The Roosters look a club in turmoil to me. Apart from their win over the Tigers in Round 15, there's been a distinct lack of spirit about their recent performances.

They were embarrassing against Manly last Sunday, playing like wooden spooners rather than a side fighting to save its season.

A big personality like SBW may create more problems than it solves at Bondi.

Anyway, let's have a look at Round 17 of the NRL.

I like the Broncos, Eels, Rabbitohs, Warriors and Dragons.

Until next week...
