Brave Hannah relives 'magical night' with Hodkinson

In a league of his own, Trent Hodkinson gave terminally ill schoolgirl Hannah Rye a night to remember on Wednesday night.

"It was one of the most magical nights I've ever had," Hannah told 7 News.

"It was incredible. I loved every second of it, it was amazing."

The 15-year-old arrived arm-in-arm with the Newcastle Knights star to her year 10 formal.

"Her Prince Charming came to the door and escorted her off to the most magical ball ever," mother Rachel said.

Hannah was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, two years ago.

Despite months of intense chemotherapy and months in remission, it returned. Doctors predict she doesn't have long to live, and the State of Origin player wanted to cheer her up.

"She brought a smile to my face last night," he told reporters on Thursday.

"She's so brave. She's such a strong girl, you wouldn't know she was going through this."

Kurri Kurri high school brought the night forward so Hannah could be there.

"A bunch of my guy friends were taking photos with Trent and they were pretty chuffed that he was there," Hannah said.

"They were pretty excited."

Mum Rachel will cherish the memories of her ecstatic daughter enjoying the night.

"We're not going to have Hannah forever, but we get that forever," she said.

"And we'll have that."

Trent first met Hannah last year through Kick for Kids, a program the footballer started to support sick children.

When the halfback heard she'd relapsed, it was his idea to do something.

"Couldn't have been more happy, more proud and more grateful," father Lance said.

Hannah was still smiling on Thursday.

"I definitely had the best day," she said.
