Hungover Blues players 'hidden' from media: Hadley

Radio personality Ray Hadley has revealed explosive reports that Blake Ferguson and Josh Dugan were so hungover from a Friday drinking session they had to be hidden from the media the next day.

The NRL commentator was speaking on his 2GB morning radio programme in Sydney about the NSW pair's pub drinking session in the days before the Origin decider.

The former Canberra Raiders teammates reportedly spent their Friday off drinking at Lennox Point Hotel in northern NSW, five days before the Blues suffered a heavy defeat in Brisbane.

The Blues were based in Kingscliff, about an hour's drive from the hotel, and were given the day to themselves ahead of the crucial clash.

New South Wales Rugby League boss Dave Trodden confirmed the Blues are investigating the circumstances around the pub visit and would be speaking with team officials.

"It hasn't been raised with the team management," Trodden told News Corp Australia.

"I'd heard the rumours. We do a review of all these things in the immediate wash-up of all Origin campaigns and I'll be asking questions about it."

Hadley said sources within rugby league told him the players in question were so hungover the next day that Blues officials shielded them from the media.

"Reports I get out of Kingscliffe [say] either one or the two were so affected by alcohol the next day the team management - instead of sanctioning the players - actually hid them from view," Hadley said.

"(NSW Rugby League CEO) Dave Trodden is today saying he heard rumours but they weren't rumours - everyone knows they were on the drink and hidden from media the next day."

Hadley also raised the more serious possibility that someone within the Blues camp was responsible for vandalising a journalist's car near the NSW training camp.

"A journalist's car was vandalised and graffitied in the lead up to the game. His name and other names were written on the car in quite a derogatory manner," Hadley claimed.

"Players were speculating they knew who did it because someone was arcing up about the aforementioned journalist and that they 'needed to be dealt with'.

"We'll never know though because there was no CCTV in the car park."

Dugan confirmed to News Corp Australia that he was at the hotel visiting friends but said there was no misbehaviour.

"We were with two of our good mates having lunch and a few beers," Dugan said.

"We were home at a respectable hour and there's nothing more to it -- it was six days (sic) out from the game."

This is in contrast to an email received by News Corp sent by a patron of the pub who refused to be named.

"On Friday night 7th July two of the NSW Origin team Blake Ferguson and Josh Dugan were at the Lennox Point Hotel," the email said.

"Both were drunk and acting like clowns. Why were these players allowed out for a big alcohol night only days away from the game?"
