GRAND BLANC, Michigan (AFP) - Tiger Woods is not sure if he will play before the US Open, but the world golf number one who is recovering from left knee surgery is already making plans next month for after the event.

Woods will play at the Buick Open here June 26-29 and conduct a clinic two days before the opening round at the home ballpark for Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers, tournament officials announced Monday.

While the team is not named for the 13-time major champion, the Tigers' stadium provides a perfect backdrop for his first ballpark clinic, with tiger heads along the walls and giant concrete tigers at entry points.

Woods, twice a winner at the Buick Open, finished second to South Africa's Trevor Immelman at last month's Masters and then underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

Woods said a week ago that his rehabilitation was going well and that he was hoping to play in the Memorial, which opens a week from Thursday, as a tuneup for the US Open on June 12-15 at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.
