NZ Newswire July 9, 2012, 6:10 am

New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell has recorded his best finish on the European tour in years, finishing in a share of 11th place at the French Open in Paris.

The former US Open champion struggled to make the cut, sneaking through with opening rounds of 71 and 74.

He shot one-under par 70 on Sunday (NZT), then finished in style with a classy four-under par 67.

The event was won by German Marcel Siem, with an eight-under 276, six shots ahead of Campbell.

Campbell collects 52,762 euros ($NZ81,100) for his best finish since September 2008 when he finished third at the British Masters.
