Sexism storm as lineswoman flattened by player

A female lineswoman brutally floored by a player on the sidelines of a Championship football match is at the centre of a sexism storm after she received no apology from the player at fault.

Sian Massey - the same official ridiculed by two Sky Sports commentators, both of whom were eventually sacked - receives a forceful shoulder in the back as she officiated on Monday.

The Cardiff City player at fault, Kevin McNaughton, is refusing to apologise following a barrage of claims in UK newspapers that he deliberately swerved at Massey to ensure a collision.

The British crowd cheers as Massey's head snaps back and she falls to the ground in what could have been a far nastier incident.

The 28-year-old McNaughton, stands and walks away without checking on Massey or helping her up. His refusal to apologise or even acknowledge her fall has since been supported by his agent.

Following a torrent of abuse against McNaughton, agent John Viola, was forced to rubbish the allegations to the Daily Mail.

"He is not that type of guy, he is the nicest player you would ever meet in your life so anyone suggesting he did it on purpose is crazy," said Viola.

"He was concentrating on the game. He is a focused footballer.

"I don't know (if he will be contacting her to apologise), I'm abroad at the moment and I haven't spoken to him about that."

Massey is refusing to comment on the issue.

Cardiff City eventually lost the match 3-0 to Middlesbrough at home.

Hold on ..I thought men and women are equal so why are we discriminating. If it was a man knocked over we would all just have a laugh. Hypocrisy. Obviously men and women arent equal .So admit that or stop whinging. You cant have it both ways.

Typical - Same as Oz. They hate women there or here invading, what think of as a male only world of sport, even as an official. I reckon it was payback blind freddy could see it was deliberate and not long after the 2 commentators got sacked for their vitriolic commentary. Boys club showing its true colours.

what a media beat up, he was clearly playing the ball, and the smile on the female linesmans face after the incident suggests that she was not hurt, and took it in good form as indeed any linesman of either sex should . the crowd typically cheered to see an umpire knocked over, probably without any real malice!! i wonder how many of the crowd even knew that the linesman was indeed female??

People labelling THIS as sexist are themselves sexist for doing so. They are making her role as a linesperson different because she is a woman.
