Interpol are reportedly investigating Newcastle United's stunning 4-4 draw with Arsenal.

The Mirror reports French TV said last night that German authorities alerted senior Interpol officials after spotting suspicious betting patterns during Saturday's game.

The Stade 2 TV show claimed detectives are looking into one of the players in particular.

Arsenal seemed to be cruising to victory at St James' Park in Newcastle after going 4-0 up.

And news website Sport365.fr said there was a "strong climate of suspicion" surrounding the Premier League game.

Football pundits say it is highly unlikely that a result could have been produced to order.

And furious Arsenal chiefs said they had instructed their lawyers to consider legal action against the website.

The North London club added that it had not been contacted by Interpol or any other authority about the match.

A spokeswoman for Newcastle FC said she had not been made aware of any allegations.

Interpol was unavailable for comment last night.
