The Australian national team are safely through to the East Asian Football Federation's (EAFF) East Asian Cup.

Holger Osieck's Socceroos beat Chinese Taipei 8-0 in Hong Kong on Sunday to move through to the tournament proper after winning three of their four matches in the qualifying compeititon.

The Socceroos needed to win by five goals or more to secure their progress through and managed to better that by scoring eight goals on their way to 19 for the tournament.

Braces from teenager Adam Taggart and Aziz Behich plus single goals from Richard Garcia, Robert Cornthwaite and Aaron Mooy and an own-goal from Yang Chao-hsun enabled the Australians to join hosts South Korea, China and Japan in the four-team competition.
