A Dutch linesman died after being beaten by players in the aftermath of a youth match the day before.
From the AP:
Richard Nieuwenhuizen collapsed and was rushed to the hospital hours after players from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten punched and kicked him. Nieuwenhuizen's club, Buitenboys, said the 41-year-old linesman died Monday evening but did not announce the exact cause of death.
Three players, whose ages range from 15 to 16, were arrested earlier Monday for alleged involvement in the beating in the town of Almere.
It remains unclear why the players beat Nieuwenhuizen, but they certainly weren't justified. The police haven't ruled out making more arrests as their investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, Nieuw Sloten have already announced that they banned the players arrested from the club and pulled their team out of the league.
UPDATE: Here's a photo of Richard Nieuwenhuizen taken before the assault...

A sad reflection of the youth of today. When they become upset over any little thing they resort to brutally bashing anyone they deem responsible. The only plausible solution for these mongrels is a lengthy gaol term with no good behaviour get out early #$%$ Any Court that fails to take the tough approach should be canned along with the Judges and Juries who refuse to mete out punishments to fit the crimes and to HELL with the do gooders who are a large part of the current problem.
ReplyUnfortunately the culture of these overseas refugees/ immigrants is starting to show its ugly head in Australia. We never had the amount of shooting, knifings or bashings until we let these so called people into this country. Years ago migrants were vetted before acceptance, in their OWN country before being allowed into this country.
Reply"It remains unclear why the players beat Nieuwenhuizen, but they certainly weren't justified." Wow! Such insightful journalism!
ReplyAt least they got arrested. In Australia, they'd probably get a slap on the wrist.
