Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker is set to be sidelined for the start of the new Premier League season after undergoing surgery on his achilles.

The England international sustained the injury late last season and battled through the final stages for Spurs before struggling with the national team at Euro2012.

Now Parker has succumbed to the problem with the operation likely to keep him out of Tottenham's season opener at Newcastle United on August 18 as well as White Hart Lane fixtures with West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City. He will return to training in mid-September.
