Japan head for Olympics with unbeaten record

Japan's men team head into the London Olympics with unbeaten records in friendly matches following their 2-1 win over Mexico in the last warm-up match played on Saturday at Nottingham Forest's City Ground, reports the official AFC website.

"It was a vital game for us," coach Takashi Sekizuka was quoted in JFA website. "Mexico are a strong side and won the Toulon tournament in France [in June]. What our players did on the pitch today meant a lot.

"After we started the game well, we were put under pressure by our opponents. We made some good moves on the right side after the break but also faced fast attacks from our opponents.

"However, our players held together as a unit and fought through to the end of the game, and that was very good for us today."

The Blue Samurai will take on Spain on July 26. The Glasgow tie will be followed by a St. James' Park match against Morocco on July 29th while the last match of the Group Stage is scheduled at Ricoh Arena, Coventry, against Honduras on August 1.
