Manchester United stopper David De Gea has backed Iker Casillas' to win the Ballon d'Or and be named best player in the world, reports talkSPORT.

And Spanish keeper de Gea, seen as a possible long-term replacement for Casillas in the Spanish national team, is right behind the idea.

De Gea, Spain's keeper for the Olympics this summer, said: "He is the best goalkeeper in the world and has been at the highest level for so long.

"He is the captain of Real Madrid and of the national team. He has won three international titles in the last four years. It's about time a Golden Ball was given to a goalkeeper. He deserves it."
