Tottenham are taking on Andre Villas-Boas after he was rejected by AS Roma, it has been revealed.

The Daly Star says former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas is close to succeeding Harry Redknapp after edging France coach Laurent Blanc for the post.

But he was first rejected by Roma after making a pitch to them.

He travelled to the Italian capital to outline his project for the club, but Roma went for Vincenzo Montella.
