Manchester United commercial director Richard Arnold insists the signing of Shinji Kagawa is not to continue their success in the Asian market.
The Red Devils have enjoyed unprecedented popularity in the Far East, especially since their 2005 signing of South Korean star Park Ji-sung, but Arnold says the acquisition of Japan ace Kagawa from German club Borussia Dortmund is not for those reasons.
"We don't sign players to sell shirts," he said. "We are reliant on 25 players and they are all massive stars.
"We have 25 George Clooneys.
"When you look at the success we've seen in that part of the world, it isn't down to any one player or person."
