Sunderland compete with QPR, West Ham for Diame

The race for off contract Wigan Athletic midfielder Momo Diame is heating up.

The Sunday Sun says Sunderland are facing competition from West Ham and QPR in the race to sign Senegal international Diame.

Midfielder Diame is available on a Bosman free transfer after leaving Wigan Athletic and was expected to join Liverpool until Kenny Dalglish's sacking scuppered that deal.

Sunderland are hoping to step in and sign the 24-year-old, but the Black Cats will have to convince Diame that his future lies in the North East rather than in London with either QPR or the newly-promoted West Ham United.
