Socceroos winger Harry Kewell says he would be honoured to captain the team in Friday night's friendly against Ghana in Sydney.
Lucas Neill, Mark Viduka and Tim Cahill will not play in the match, but Kewell is confident he is fit enough to play the full game.
The Socceroos will field a team dominated by Australian-based players and Kewell says he would love to captain the side.
"I think it's an ambition for every player playing in the game, in any game in any team, that they would like to lead out a team," he said.
"But at the end of the day yes, it is being a captain and all that, but when you're out there on the park it's not only one person that leads a team, it's the whole."
The 29-year-old was sidelined for lengthy periods during his five years with English Premier League side Liverpool, but now says his time away from the game may allow him to continue playing until he is 40.
"I've gone through a rough time but because my body has taken a rest over the last couple of years of not playing physically football, just resting," he said.
"If you keep your body in good shape there's no reason why you can't go on until hopefully 40, but you never know."
