New era at Homebush

Imagine you are George Bailey growing up in Launceston and hoping one day to be picked for your country.

Bingo! The phone call comes from chairman of selectors John Inverarity: "Congratulations George, you have been selected skipper of the Australian T20 team to play India. Well done son."

George is pumped, he can hardly think straight, his dreams are becoming a reality, he can picture tossing the coin and looking around to his team as he waves a flashing batting stroke too his playing group standing out on the front terrace of the famous Members Grandstand at the SCG.

Suddenly Inverarity interjects:"By the way George, the game is being played at ANZ Stadium at Homebush, not the SCG. Good luck son".

So there you have it, international cricket at Stadium Australia, I mean ANZ Stadium Homebush...well you know what I mean.

I ask you does it have the same ring to it?

Maybe, maybe not, but George Bailey will walk out onto the pitch, toss the coin of a new era that we all have to get used too.

The history and traditions of the SCG and sport itself are something that kids are not that interested in today.

Is it because they are such a "me" generation or is it the speed of a world that we live in?

ANZ Stadium will house 60,000 plus people for three hours of cricket that will see no more than 10 defensive strokes on the night and will count the "6's" being hit like beers on the bar at the local pub.

The new world order has arrived and I think for cricket they have an obligation to make the money churn in a game designed for that exact premise.

ANZ Stadium is the cash cow with an extra 40,000 seats above the SCG's which is what it is all about - young eyeballs looking for excitement and glamour with someone winning in half the time.

I will be at ANZ Stadium for some excitement and fun and a touch of history.
