Ponting unfairly taking criticism
August 28, 2009

The whole team was shocked and disappointed - to say the least - with the way things panned out in the fifth Test at The Oval.
These hard to take defeats do come sometimes in sport, and we have to accept our defeat graciously and get on with it.
Ricky Ponting has unfortunately been taking the brunt of the criticism for what is our defeat.
I think Simon Katich said it best in a recent interview: It's the easy option to blame a captain when a side loses but everyone has to take responsibility for this loss.
That's exactly what needs to be done in this scenario and we will always stand by our captain.
We didn't come here to lose the Ashes and that will hurt us for a long time. The team wants to switch focus to the limited overs matches and hope to make up for it in some small way at least.
On a positive note, we've had guys like Dirk Nannes, Callum Ferguson and Tim Paine joining the squad and just adding a new spark to the side for the matches to come.
Even after being in the team for 10 years it's exciting to have new faces in the team. It's always good to make these guys feel welcome because that is how I was made to feel when I started my career.
A lot of people are saying 50-over cricket is getting boring now because of the explosion of the Twenty20 contests.
I think there is a place for all three formats of the game in the world game.
Test cricket is alive and well judging by the reaction of the English public in the past week.
It remains as the absolute pinnacle for me but at the same time 50-over and 20-over cricket still offer the same privilege of playing for Australia.
Ricky Ponting expressed a desire to have another shot in 2013… as for me… we'll just have to wait and see.

Yet again the team play with less drive than a bunch of castrsted canarys and nobody questions the lack of pride in the baggy green which the captain should lead. The attitude of Freddy can lift the POMS but our politicaly correct role models couldn't inspire a vigorous discussion in a book club
