One sleepless night to go
August 20, 2009

My best chance to play the fifth Test was to make sure the selectors knew I was bowling fast and that I had recovered from my injury against the England Lions.
I thought I put my best foot forward and managed to do that, now it's just a case of wait and see what happens.
The most critical thing to look at after a long (16 over) spell like the one I got through at the weekend is how stiff the body feels afterwards. In that respect it was a good sign that I came up with zero soreness around the area that was injured.
The team has still not been named - we'll be waiting for tomorrow to hear it - but to be perfectly honest it will be tough for the selectors to change a winning side.
The team's carrying a lot of momentum from Headingley and as disappointed as I will be if the opportunity doesn’t come up for me to play I’ll be looking forward to the long one-day campaign to come.
The first game will be next week and we’ve got a massive home summer to think about too.
A lot has been said about rumoured tailoring of the wicket to suit England at The Oval. I don’t see this as much of an issue. As a cricket team we generally know how a cricket wicket will play in each country. This is never going to change too much.
A draw is not good enough for England to win the Ashes so they are obviously going to do everything they can to win. I've had a look at the Oval pitch for the last two days during training and it looks to me like a nice wicket for batting (as it often is).
We will be playing for a win without a doubt. The only way I could ever see this changing is if a win for us was not an option on the last session of the final day.
On another note, word has got around about bookies approaching Australian players.
Every member of the Australian team knows that the first thing to do in this scenario is to report it immediately to management. There are plenty of people to deal with any wrongdoing like that.
