Tough Indian summer gives us an edge

It's nice to be back on Australian soil and the prospect of a juicy Gabba wicket has got me excited for the first Test of the summer.

If we can get off to a great start against the Kiwis tomorrow it could really set up the summer for us and it will be great to get momentum for the many games ahead.

The Gabba is a good ground to start playing the style of cricket we like to play at home and it will hopefully set us on our way to sweeping the summer 5-0 (two Tests against the Kiwis and three against the South Africans).

The Gabba has always been a happy hunting ground for seam bowlers and if all goes to plan and we put the ball in the right areas, hopefully we can see some good results over the next few days.

I lost a bit of weight over the last week in India but I'm back where I want to be. I'm feeling really fit and ready for tomorrow.

We haven't finalised our team to face the Kiwis tomorrow yet, and it will be a tough call as to whether Jason Krejza or Shane Watson gets the nod in the starting XI.

If he plays, Jason will definitely have a big impact on the match. The wicket may look green and moist for the first few sessions but moving into the fourth and fifth days spinners always have a major role to play.

Shane Warne always got the best out of the Gabba late in a Test and there is no reason Jason Krejza can't take wickets up here.

To Shane Watson's credit he has done so many good things over the past few weeks. He's bowled and batted well with every opportunity he has been given.

Andrew Symonds will play tomorrow and any side with him in it is a stronger side. What we have is the opportunity to call on two great all-rounders.

Either Jason or Shane will miss out tomorrow and it's going to be a very tough call to make.

As far as the Kiwi strengths are concerned, Brendan McCullum and Daniel Vettori are the two lynchpins who spring to mind straight away.

I've also heard some great things about Jamie How as an opening batsman and he looks really promising.

I will also be looking out for my former team mate from the Punjab Kings XI, Kyle Mills, to put in a good performance against us.

I had a chat to him yesterday and he's happy to be back in Australia and reckons he's in good nick too.

After the result of the Indian series there are going to be a lot of teams around the world that think we aren't capable or aren't at our best at this point in time.

The way I look at it we haven't played our best cricket over the last month, and in this day and age you can’t win every single match.

With that said, we learnt a lot in India and we are a better side for it.

I don't put much stock in anyone who writes the Australian team off or even writes the Kiwis off for that matter.

The Kiwis are a team that always lift to play Australia and we know we are going to be in for a close competition.
