Last chance for time in the middle
June 30, 2009

It's always hard to comment on your own performance but strictly from a numbers point-of-view I was happy with my match against Sussex.
I took four wickets for the match, conceded a 100 runs from 30 overs in total, and managed to average 75 with the bat.
I thought my bowling got stronger and stronger and hopefully I can carry on in the next tour match we have coming up starting on Wednesday.
I stay clear of what's being said in the papers and I'm just focussing on what I'm doing training as hard as I possibly can and giving myself every opportunity.
A lot's been said about the make up of the side with regards to a specialist spinner but I don't think that decision can be made until we see the pitch for the first test.
With that said, a spinner is always good for the make-up of a team in any situation.
Our batsmen who missed out in the first dig at Hove against Sussex got a chance in the second. It was good to have everyone spend time at the crease.
Michael Clarke was in the runs with 75 and I was pleased with my own 47 first up and, 33 in the second innings.
Time at the crease is very important and I think everyone got at least something out of our last match; and if they didn't another opportunity is coming to iron out a few kinks in our second four-dayer.
The itinerary was a bit different in 2005 with the limited overs matches coming before the Tests and it'll be interesting to see if this schedule makes a difference to the squad this time around.
We came off a Twenty20 loss before winning at Lord's and then found ourselves off the boil in the tight Test at Edgbaston... and the rest is, of course, history.

Michael Vaughan has been a great personality for the game both on and off the field. I've always enjoyed playing against him and I find it a bit of a shame he won't be lining up for England.
I think everyone wishes him all the best.
